Waxing Tips

The bikini area is one of the most sensitive areas of the body and special attention should be paid to ensure avoiding irritation.

Here are some helpful tips in preparing for the Brazilian Wax and common questions:

What can I do to prepare for the Brazilian?
Taking Ibuprofen 1 hour prior to your visit and avoiding caffeine helps to reduce the pain factor. We also carry topical anesthetics for purchase, which can be applied 30-45 minutes before your appointment.

Does it hurt?
There is some pain involved, however most women find it quite tolerable. I work quickly and because of my proprietary technique the pain is greatly minimized.

How long should hair be?
Hair must be between 1/4 and 1/2 inch to be effectively removed. If hair is longer we will trim to the desired length.

How long should I wait to get waxed after I’ve shaved?
3 to 4 weeks is recommended or until all the hair is at least 1/4 of an inch or longer. This will ensure you achieve the best result possible.

Is it OK to shave between wax appointments?
Waxing slows down and reduces hair growth. Hair also grows much thinner thus making it easier to remove and less painful when waxed. Shaving just one time in between will negate all that is gained from waxing and can further irritate follicles which can cause ingrown hair. So, no, we don’t advise shaving in between.

How long will it last?

You should have 2 to 3 weeks of fairly smooth skin. We recommend booking appointments every 4 to 6 weeks.

I'm on my period. Can I get waxed?
If possible, avoid scheduling your appointment just before or during your menstrual cycle. We recommend this only because we tend to be most sensitive during this time. However, if you're feeling brave we will wax you anytime you desire.

How long does it take?
The Brazilian itself should take no longer than 10 to 15 min.

What can I expect afterwards?
The waxed skin might be tender for a couple of days. We advise taking Ibuprofen to decrease inflammation and skin sensitivity. Skin may break out in tiny bumps, especially when waxed for the first time. This reaction is normal and clears up quickly. To speed up the healing process, I recommend applying our special Dermalogica products.

What can I do about ingrown hair?
Exfoliating in the shower with a Dermalogica Buffing Cloth everyday helps to keep the skin free from cellular buildup which can trap hair. We carry Dermalogica Skin Care products which help to prevent and clear the skin of ingrown hair.

Is waxing sanitary?
Yes! Here at Spa Pierman my main concern is for your health and all of the waxing items used are disposable.

Are there any topical creams or medications that I should avoid prior to getting waxed?
Yes! Internal Medication such as Accutane and topicals that include Retin-A, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid,Differin,Tazorac,Avage,Strivectin,Renova,ProActive,Avita,Benzoyl Peroxide. All of the above mentioned can enhance skin sensitivity that could lead to lifting of the skin when removing hair.

Can I tan before or after I get waxed?
You should wait 3-5 days to get waxed after you have tanned. You should never get waxed if you are sunburned or even if skin is pink. The very top layer of skin could pull off or "lift" which is painful and can result in scabbing. You should wait for 3 days after you have waxed to tan. Waxed skin is more photosensitive and is more susceptible to burning.
